Doane Poll
What best describes your view on today’s shocking report from USDA that farmers not only got all the corn acres planted that they “intended” to in March, but 1.3 million acres more than they intended, while still managing to plant all but about 250,000 acres of Mar. 1 soybean intentions?
Not surprised at all because prices went so much higher after the intentions survey was taken in March.

Given all the weather delays in planting, I am very surprised farmers managed to plant over a million acres more to corn and soybeans combined than they indicated in March.

I don’t believe the planted acreage numbers. I’m betting future reports will show smaller acreage planted and more planted acres abandoned rather than re-planted.

Last Week's Poll Results
In areas affected by flooding, what best describes your prognosis for planted acreage?
With prices this high, we’ll probably plant beans right into July and hope for half a crop. Prices are just too high to let that ground idle.
38.0%
It all depends on if you have crop insurance. If you do, you claim the prevented planting payments. If not, you plant beans and hope for late frost and half a normal yield.
35.9%
The flooding was the last straw. Figure out how many acres are flooded right now and you can scratch them for ’08 altogether.
